Today I was asked to rate my Data Architect skills as: Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, or Expert. The definition for each level were expressed in terms of size and complexity of designed data models:
Basic • Create accurate object models of domains of small size and simple complexity
Intermediate • Create accurate object models of domains of medium size and moderate complexity
Advanced • Create accurate object models of domains of medium size and difficult complexity
Expert • Create accurate object models of complex of large size and difficult complexity

I’ll be modest here. The size and complexity used in definition are relative. Is 70 tables a large size? Do you prefer an expert who designed a model of large size and difficult complexity or intermediate who designed a model of medium size and moderate complexity that solves the same business problem?
